This week God brought on the next step on my journey into full-time ministry. I was asked to be one of the Gatekeepers for a bible study at my church called REAL Women: REAL Hope. A Gatekeeper is the table leader, in pairs of two we guide and connect the women at our table (8 women in this case) in hopes that they grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. I was officially put into this role last week, although it was brought up to me about a month ago. But last night a thought popped into my head: I am the youngest Gatekeeper and most likely going to be the youngest woman at my table. How are these women with more life experience going to take being led by a single, childless, 23 year old woman?
A few weeks back, my friend who has hopes of becoming a preacher, told me a verse that he remembers when he gets discouraged like this:
“But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.” Jeremiah 1:7
Right as these doubts of being too young to lead women creeped in my heart a more powerful thought bloomed and it was that verse. God has put me in this position for a reason, I am right where I need to be. As long as I allow God to work through me, remembering that is all Him and not me, everything will be just fine. Not just fine, everything will be great. Yes, I don’t have a ministry degree. Yes, I haven’t been a devoted Christian for that long. But one thing I know for sure is that my heart burns and desires to support and build up these women up in Christ. I am so honored that God has given me this opportunity and I can’t wait to see what he does with these women, myself included.
Whether your going into ministry or just getting out of college, whether you have a full-time job or you still job searching, God has you right where He wants you. Even if it’s hard, praise Him for where He has you. Don’t let anyone tell you your are too young to succeed.
“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
